Travelers heading into Gasoline Alley will be greeted by a big new sign overarching the road.
It will also be hard to miss by anyone travelling past on Hwy 2.
County Council approved a $150,000 sign for the north entrance to Gasoline Alley, the County’s newest hamlet.
"Gasoline Alley is a really important area for Red Deer County," said County Mayor Jim Wood. "This is really reasonable when you look at this sign and compare it to what signs can cost."
The sign will arch over the new northern access to Gasoline Alley, just before the roundabout on Leva Avenue, where the sidewalk curbing starts.
The sign will act as a calming feature for traffic just getting off the highway and welcome travelers into the hamlet.
“It’s necessary because of the changes we’ve seen at the QE2 changes. It defines this booming area we should be proud of. It’s money well spent in my opinion," said Councillor Christine Moore. "It’s a nice advert for our hamlet."
Councillor Phillip Massier said he’s “looking forward to driving under it.”
The County has received feedback from people in the Gasoline Alley West area that the new north road is very long and drivers question whether they have taken the correct route. The sign will provide additional confidence to drivers.
