SCA Skatepark gets $179K boost

The Springbrook Community Association got a boost they needed today during a Zoom meeting with Red Deer County council. The hamlet was awarded $179 K for their Skatepark project, which has been in the works since 2012.

It’s been a long road of fundraising and presentations for the grassroots committee over the past few years.

Community bottle drives, community garage sales and other fundraising efforts have been the major source of funding for the project, which is expected to cost expected $606,000 plus GST.

So far the committee has raised $472,500 of that total which includes a Community Facility Enhancement Program grant of $125,000 which must be used in 2020.

Included in the request is $15,000 for benches, picnic tables, and garbage and recycling bins to allow the area to be beautified and utilized for all members of the community of Springbrook.

The roughly 8,000 sq ft. facility will be located on 1.25 acres of County land, just south of the Springbrook Multiplex. The land was previously approved for use as a Skatepark by the County.
